if you have any home made recipes from your parents etcWhats the best recipe for a beef stew and cooking method?
this is the only recipe I use any more


Irish Pub Stew


4 to 6 servings





1 1/2 pounds beef, cut into chunks (splurge on the cut if you can)


1/4 cup butter


1 can tomato soup ( I know right )


1 can water


4 carrots, cut into chunks


4 large potatoes, cut into chunks


2 stalks celery, cut into chunks


4 onions, cut into chunks


2 teaspoons salt


1 teaspoon black pepper


1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped fine


1/4 cup good quality sherry


2 bay leaves





Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.





In a heavy skillet brown the beef in the butter over medium high heat. Add the soup and


water and stir well. Add remaining ingredients and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring


once.





Transfer to a cast iron Dutch oven or ovenproof pot and bake, covered, for 5 hours,


stirring occasionally.





Remove from oven, remove bay leaves and serve with Irish Soda Bread and butter.Whats the best recipe for a beef stew and cooking method?
I travel and this is what I cook for myself and peers when we are on the road. I use a slow cooker and give it at least 6 to 8 hours, it's done by the time we get in in the evenings after working: ( There aren't any rules for stew and you can use more veggies if you choose.) In true Southern style, we always serve with cornbread.





11/2 to 2 lbs lean stew meat ( sometimes I brown it first but you don't have to )


1 - white onion - diced


2 - cans petite diced tomato ( and the juice )


potatoes - 4 or 5 ( make it however you want ) cut up


baby carrots - (as many or as few as you wish)


Spices to taste - salt, pepper, garlic powder and 1/4 tsp of red pepper if you want ( it's not enough to make it hot but gives it flavor)


Cover with water and cook until the meat is fork tender. You can add the potatoes about 1/2 way through, they don't take as long to cook.
you have to remember stewing is a combination cooking method.this means first you use dry heat to brown your meet and veggies,then moist heat to simmer it all in.


browning allows richness flavour and colour to your stew.


make sure you get a cook crispy outside.


this time of year i use carrots,turnips,onions and garlic and of course potatoes,add peas later in the cooking process.


rosemary is good herb to use.

I cook beef stew in the slow cooker. Throw in potatoes, carrots, onion, 1 can of corn, 1 cream of mushroom soup, 1 can beef broth, about 2 cups water, 1 can tomato sauce, onion soup mix and cook for low for 8 hours or high for 4.
